Level of Automation Taxonomy

21.02.2022

SAFEMODE has put together a toolkit in which an overview of different Human Factors methods is given. As part of the work some of the methods are further developed and refined. One of these methods is the LOAT (Level of Automation Taxonomy). The LOAT guides the classification of the Level of Automation of a designed functionality and additionally provides indications to whether the employed Level of Automation is suitable.

Until recently the LOAT was used by consulting a table, but now we are working on designing an interactive tool, the LOAT-IT (Level of Automation Taxonomy-Inspection Tool). It guides the user step by step through the process. Evaluation activities within the SAFEMODE consortium have started and will bring fruitful input for design improvements
